Mapping the gay rights debate
I made this map today, for Bright Hall as you might expect. It’s a simple combination of the Google Maps API and an article I read about gay marriage laws.
How to use: Click each state to read any available information. Choose “view larger map,” at the bottom of the image, if you find yourself squinting too much.
Legend:
Green – State performs gay marriages
Yellow – State performs civil unions
Blue – State endows same-sex couples with domestic partnership rights
Red – State bans gay marriage
Pink – State recognizes out-of-state gay marriages and/or civil unions

This is a great start – are you planning to update the map? Looks like many changes have occurred since April 2009. e.g.
CA should be blue (prop 8 upheld, but the state still allows its broad domestic partnerships).
DC now recognizes foreign same sex marriages – mayor has signed the bill (purple).
CO, HI, MD, and NV all have all legalized varying degrees of domestic partnerships.
MI has passed some DP provisions in its most recent budget, which is awaiting the gov’s signature.
